Your Questions
Is Rolfing Painful?
Very seldomly during a session, a client may experience pain. Usually this is only for a matter of a few seconds and is immediately followed by a sensation of relief through the tissue. With the cold laser, as well as new bodywork techniques, your session will be comfortable and enjoyable.
Do I have to do a 10-Series?
A Rolfer will have the greatest opportunity to make profound changes in your structure when given the freedom of a 10 Series. Although the 10 is of the highest recommendation, other suggestions are to try sessions 1-3, to determine if Rolfing is right for you.
Client Testimonial
"For the past 8 years I have had chronic back pain, and been unable to exercise. Negative MRI's and X-Rays lead me to Chiropractics and Massage, which only provided minor relief. After explaining my problems to Chris, he educated me about the "Ten Series" and how Rolfing would be a great fit to give me some relief.
Along with the treatment, he coached me on body awareness which I was oblivious to. The minor corrections Chris made began showing major improvements as my body adapted to the new positions it has been long searching to find. I could feel and notice subtle and major changes in my posture, alignment, muscle relaxation, and my 8 years of back pain has reduced by about 80% after only 7 sessions!
Both the laser and Percussor Chris uses to stimulate and relax the nerves are just amazing. My body is so eager to go back to its original position and alignment. What is amazing for me is that all of these corrections are holding, and each session we progress to a higher level of order.
I am so grateful that I'm getting major relief after believing there would be no hope but to live with chronic pain. I would highly recommend Chris and Rolfing to anyone. Thanks Chris!"

What is fascia?
Fascia is a very important type of connective tissue which completely surrounds all muscle fibers, organs, and bones. Along with the nerves, it is partly responsible for holding the strain patterns in your body. Think of the idea "form follows function." If you sit in front of a computer all day with your shoulders rolled forward, then the fascia through your shoulders and chest will form to support that posture. Even if it is not correct.
How much is each session?
My rate for each session is $150 for 75-90 minutes. Cash or check is accepted at the end of each session. Children under the age of 10, I am happy to treat for no charge.
How is Rolfing different from massage?
The depth of Rolfing sometimes gets confused with a deep tissue massage. Combining specific Rolfing techniques for connective tissue release with the laser provides sensations that none of my clients feel are similar to massage. Rolfing and Massage are two completely different therapies.
How is Rolfing different from chiropractics?
Although both Chiropracters and Rolfers objectives are to bring the body to a higher level of order, we do have very different pathways to accomplish this. Rolfing does not consist of any high velocity adjustments, appointment duration is much longer, and we deal with how the entire organism relates its segments in gravity. A Rolfer invites changes through the soft tissue to influence how the joints may be fixated out of proper alignment. If a Chiropracter and a Rolfer are on the same page, the changes for the client are substantial. Chriopracters and Rolfers both have gifts that the other is not specialized in.
Does insurance cover Rolfing?
Insurance companies are beginning to see that Rolfing can give alternatives instead of surgeries, prolonged durations of rehab, medications, etc. This being said, not all insurance companies cover Rolfing. If asked I will provide you an insurance form that you can submit to your insurance. Many clients use popular HSA's (Health Savings Account.)
How often is Rolfing done?
The most ideal interval for Rolfing is one time per week or up to one time every two weeks. Most of my clients report that two weeks between sessions starts to get a little long between sessions.
What do I wear?
Typically, the most common "Rolfing Uniform" is boxerbriefs for men, or some sort of cycling shorts. For women, a sports bra and small shorts are usually worn. If appropriate (coverage), underwear can be worn. For men and women lose fitting clothing is not very condusive to seeing how strain travels through your body. Most important is you being comfortable. During the bodywork, a sheet can be provided to you for your comfort.
How long does a session last?
Your first Rolfing session usually last 120 minutes because of taking a history and doing many system tests. For a typical session please allow 75-90 minutes.
Who needs Rolfing?
Everyone! This is because we all experience discomforts in our body whether it be a shoulder, a neck, a hip, a foot, a back, etc. Perhaps the most exciting application for Rolfing is athletes. Injury Prevention, Efficiency, Fluidity, Power, Reaction Time, Speed are all things athletes are seeking and are all areas where Performance Rolfing can improve them.
How do I get the most out of my Rolfing experience?
Being excited to learn how to use your body is essential. We will talk about the new levels of awareness we want to tap in to. An example of this is being aware of your feet during walking once you have experienced the lower leg and foot session. Exploring within yourself how your body is now moving and how gravity is being distributed through you is all part of the learning process to make your Rolfing experience more likely to be sustained.
